Morton Street Village officially OPEN!

Late last year, CICD celebrated the official opening of Morton Station Village! This income-restricted, 40-unit complex in Mattapan was developed by CICD in partnership with the Planning Office for Urban Affairs (POUA). It brings much-needed affordable rental and home-ownership opportunities to families with incomes ranging from 30% to 100% of the area median income.

Morton Station Village was constructed on the site of the former Boston Police District Station which had stood vacant for decades. It is another example of CICD’s ability to transform abandoned spaces that contribute to urban blight into vibrant residential and commercial developments that increase access to affordable housing and bring economic opportunity to underserved neighborhoods.

The development includes a community room for use by local residents and artists and will soon include the Steven P. Odom Serenity Garden, which honors a young victim of gun violence. Its proximity to the Fairmount Line’s Morton Station MBTA stop offers tenants an easy commute to jobs in the city.

The Morton Station Village ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by Secretary of Housing Edward Augustus, representatives from the Mayor’s Office of Housing, Cardinal Seán O’Malley and local elected officials.

"CICD is proud that Morton Village advances Black homeownership in Mattapan. While Mattapan has historically had above average rates of homeownership, professionals of color will now have the opportunity to buy into this vibrant and diverse community, further solidifying Black equity. We thank all those who made this vision a reality, from the community members and the city to lenders and investors."

– Donald Alexis, President, CICD

Secretary Augustus said of the development, “What the community has done here to create these 40 homes is outstanding. You’ve taken a long-vacant piece of land and brought life back to it. You’ve advanced homeownership here in Mattapan and that not only benefits families today, but will create ripples for generations to come…Morton Station Village is a shining example of all of that in one amazing place."

Our sincere thanks to all those who made this development possible and we hope that all our new tenants had a wonderful first holiday season in their new homes!
